UNLOCK STRESS MANAGEMENT

Keeping Your Cool

Avoiding the Stress Breakdown Lane & Finding Your Calm

By now, we’ve all learned that stress is a part of life and a little bit of stress is good for the body, (it helps us push our limits and get stronger). However, more frequently than not we are way more stressed out than we should be. Stress is initiated by our Nervous System- Sympathetic dominant state or  fight or flight mode. This is when the brain triggers a targeted hormonal response produced by the adrenal glands which release adrenaline and cortisol into the bloodstream.

These hormones initiate increased breathing, heart rate and blood pressure. And, that glucose rush into the muscles gives you a burst of energy to fight or run away from what your brain perceives is a life or death situation. It cannot tell the difference between a tiger or a shitty work email and unleashes the same physical response. Survival is always prioritized over thriving activities, such as digestion and building immunity.

This leads us to the Parasympathetic, aka the rest and digest state. It’s all about supporting and thriving over surviving. It aids in detoxification and cellular regeneration.

Why is too much stress bad?

Chronic stress causes our SNS to be more active than it should and this causes illness and aging, like digestive issues, blood sugar deregulation and poor sleep.

Tips for finding more chill in your day?

  • Add a meditation practice into your daily routine this week. Start with 5 minutes and add more each day if you can. Find a quiet place and check out the meditation apps, headspace or insight timer.

  • Delegate tasks to others

  • Keep a journal

  • Go for a walk outside

  • Take class!
